The seven-member Northfield City Council relies on active citizen involvement to make the city go. The council is comprised of a mayor, four ward representatives and two at-large representatives, but many, many more residents help shape the direction of city policy with their service on advisory boards and commissions, such as the Planning Commission, the Economic Development Authority and the Human Rights Commission.
Services
provided by local government include an intra-city transit, police
protection, library service housed in the historic Carnegie Library,
a volunteer fire and rescue squad, city parks and trails, and a
crisp street department that clears snow almost before it hits the
pavement.
